A George III silver wax jack, of lyre form, decorated with dual reeded bands to the rim of the circular base and repeated to the edge of the lyre form central superstructure, oval thumbpiece and drip pan top section. The conical extinguisher and central screw-thread rod are both secured with a chain.

 

Ensuite with a red wax taper coil. Fully hallmarked to the underside of the base.

Height: 14cm.

Diameter of base: 11cm.

Weight: 153 grams.

 

Condition: Good antique condition. Free from repair. Some slight distortion to the lyre form central section as to be expected given age and use.

 

Notes: Wax jacks appear from c.1775 and sterling silver examples are fairly rare. Plated examples are encountered more frequently.
